raccoon

For the raccoon I used the same pattern that I use for the fox, with some changes.

Materials: For the raccoon you will need 2.5 mm crochet hook and suitable weight yarn in grey, white and black. Fiberfill stuffing and a tapestry needle.

Abbreviations:

ch: chain

sc: single crochet

sc2tog: single crochet 2 together (decrease)

sc BLO: single crochet in the back loop only

hdc: half double crochet

dc: double crochet

sl st: slip stitch

st(s): stitch(es)

raccoonface

Head:

Work in continuous rounds, use a stitch marker to keep track off your rounds.

Use grey yarn for the head.

Round 1: In magic ring work 6 sc. (6 st).

Round 2:  2 sc in each st around. (12 sts).

Round 3: *1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st*, repeat from * to * until the end of the round. (18 sts).

Round 4: *1 sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st*, repeat from * to * until the end of the round. (24 sts).

Round 5: *1 sc in next 11 sts, 2 sc in next st*, repeat from * to * 1 more time. (26 sts).

Round 6: *1 sc in next 12 sts, 2 sc in next st*, repeat from * to * 1 more time. (28 sts).

Rounds 7 – 9: 1 sc in each sts around. (28 sts).

Round 10: *1 sc in next 12 sts, sc2tog *, repeat from * to * 1 more time. (26 sts).

Round 11: *1 sc in next 11 sts, sc2tog *, repeat from * to * 1 more time. (24 sts).

Round 12: *1 sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog *, repeat from * to * until the end of the round. (18 sts).

Start stuffing the head with the fiberfill.

Round 13: *1 sc in next st, sc2tog *, repeat from * to * untilthe end of the round. (12 sts).

Round 14: sc2tog until the end of the round. (6 sts). Fasten off, use tail to sew hole closed.

Eyes:

Use black yarn. Make two.

Round 1: In magic ring work 5 sc. (5 sts).

Round 2: 2 sc in the first st. 1 sc and 1 hdc in the next st. 2 dc in the next st. 1 hdc and 1 sc in the next st. 2 sc in the last st. join the round with sl st in the first st. Fasten off, leave long tail for sewing.

Sew the eyes on the head. With white yarn embroider a few stitches around the eyes.

Snout:

Use white yarn.

Round 1: In magic ring work 5 sc. (5 sts).

Round 2:  2 sc in each st. (10 sts). Join the round with sl st in the first st. Fasten off, leave long tail for sewing.

Sew the snout to the head. Using black yarn, embroider the nose.

Ears:

Make 2.

Make the outer ear using grey.

Row 1: In magic ring work 4 sc. Ch 1. Turn. (4 sts).

Row 2: 2 sc in the first st. 1 sc and 1 dc in the next st. 1 dc and 1 sc in the next st. 2 sc in the last st. (8 sts). Fasten off, leave long tail for sewing.

Use black for the inner ear.

Row 1: In magic ring work 1 sc, 2 dc and 1 sc. Fasten off, leave long tail for sewing.

Sew the inner ear onto the outer ear. With white yarn make a few stitches on the top side of the ear. Sew ears on the head.

Body:

Work in continuous rounds, use a stitch marker to keep track off your rounds.

We crochet the body first, leaving holes for the knees. Then we go back to form the knees.

Use grey yarn.

Round 1: In magic ring work 8 sc. (8 st).

Round 2:  2 sc in each st around. (16 sts).

Round 3: *1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st*, repeat from * to * until the end of the round. (24 sts).

Round 4: *1 sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st*, repeat from * to * until the end of the round. (32 sts).

Round 5: *1 sc in next 15 sts, 2 sc in next st*, repeat from * to * 1 more time. (34 sts).

Round 6: 1 sc in each st. (34 sts).

Round 7: *1 sc in the next 16 sts, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat from * to * 1 more time. (36 sts).

Rounds 8 -10: 1 sc in each st. (36 sts).

Round 11: 1 sc in the next 9 sts. Ch 2, skip the next 8 sts and work 1 sc in the next 10 sts. Ch 2, skip the next 8 sts and work 1 sc in the next st. (24 sts).

Round 12: 1 sc in the next 9 sts. 1 sc BLO in the next 2 sts. 1 sc in the next 10 sts. 1 sc BLO in the next 2 sts. 1 sc in the next st. (24 sts).

Rounds 13 – 14: 1 sc in each sts. ( 24 sts).

Round 15: *1 sc in the next st,, sc2tog*, repeat from * to * until the end of the round. (16 sts).

Rounds 16 – 17: 1 sc in each st. (16 sts).

Round 18: Sc2tog, repeat until the end of the round. (8 sts). Fasten off, leave long tail for sewing.

For the knees:

Round 1: Attach new yarn in one of the knee holes. Work 1 sc in each st. (10 sts).

Round 2: 1 sc in each st. (10 sts).

Round 3: Sc2tog, repeat until the end of the round. (5 sts). Fasten off, use tail to sew hole closed.

Repeat for the second knee.

Use the neck opening to stuff the body.

Front legs:

Use black yarn. Make two.

Ch 11. Turn

Row 1: Insert the hook in the second ch from the hook and work 1 sc in each st. (10 st). Fasten off, leave long tail for sewing.

Sew the legs on the body.

Tail:

Work in continuous rounds, use a stitch marker to keep track off your rounds.

Use grey yarn.

Round 1: In magic ring work 3 sc. (3 st).

Round 2:  2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in the next 2 sts. (4 sts).

Round 3: *1 sc in the next st, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat from * to * one more time. (6 sts).

Round 4: *1 sc in the next 2 sts, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat from * to * one more time. (8 sts).

Change to black yarn.

Round 5: 1 sc in each st. (8 sts).

Round 6: *1 sc in the next 3 sts, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat from * to * one more time. (10 sts).

Change to grey yarn.

Rounds 7 – 8: 1 sc in each st. (10 sts).

Change to black yarn.

Round 9: *1 sc in the next 4 sts, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat from * to * one more time. (12 sts).

Round 10: 1 sc in each st. (12 sts).

Change to grey yarn.

Round 11: *1 sc in the next 4 sts, sc2tog*, repeat from * to * one more time. (10 sts).

Round 12: 1 sc in each st. (10 sts).

Start stuffing the tail.

Change to black yarn.

Round 13: *1 sc in the next 3 sts, sc2tog*, repeat from * to * one more time. (8 sts).

Round 14: 1 sc in each st. (8 sts).

Change to grey yarn.

Round 15: *1 sc in the next 2 sts, sc2tog*, repeat from * to * one more time. (6 sts).

Rounds 16 – 17: 1 sc in each st. (6 sts). Fasten off, leave long tail for sewing.

Sew the tail on the body.
