This pink yarn, made me think of pigs. And of course Ι made a few. A whole family of them.

Materials

You will need a 2.5 mm crochet hook and sport cotton yarn in pink. You will also need black thread for the eyes, fibrefill for stuffing, stitch marker, scissors and tapestry needle.

Finished Measurements

The mama pig is approx. 7 cm (2.7 in) long and 4.5 cm (1.8 in) tall. The piglet is approx. 4 cm (1.6 in) long and 2.5 cm (1 in) tall. When made with suggested yarn weight and hook.

Abbreviations

The pattern is written in US terminology.

R: Round
mc: magic circle
ch: chain
sc: single crochet
inc: increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
sc2tog: sc 2 together (decrease)
p: picot
st(s): stitch(es)

Picot stitch

When you reach the stitch where you want to add the picot, chain 3. Slip stitch in the third chain from hook. One picot completed.

Note

In this pattern the picot does not count as stitch.

Instructions

Mama pig

R1: In mc work 6 sc. (6 sts).

R2: 6 sc in the back loops. (6 sts).

R3: 6 sc. (6 sts).

R4: (inc) 6 times. (12 sts).

R5: (1 sc, inc) 6 times. (18 sts).

R6: (2 sc, inc) 6 times. (24 sts).

R7-8: 24 sc. (24 sts).

R9: 5 sc, 1 p, 5 sc, 1 p, 14 sc. (24 sts).

R10-18: 24 sc. When you reach the picot keep it in the front of the work. (24 sts).

R19: (2 sc, sc2tog) 6 times. (18 sts).

Stuff the pig with fibrefill.

R20: (1 sc, sc2tog) 6 times. (12 sts).

R21: (sc2tog) 6 times. (6 sts).

Fasten off, leave tail for sewing.

Weave the tail through the front loops of the remaining 6 sts, then pull to close the hole.

Use the black tread to embroider the eyes.

Legs

Make four

R1: In mc work 6 sc. (6 sts).

R2-3: 6 sc. (6 sts).

Fasten off, leave tail for sewing.

Sew the legs at the bottom of the pig.

Tail

Ch 5. Turn. 3 sc in each st. (12 sts).

Fasten off, leave tail for sewing.

Sew the tail at the back of the pig.

Piglet

R1: In mc work 6 sc. (6 sts).

R2: 6 sc in the back loops. (6 sts).

R3: (inc) 6 times. (12 sts).

R4: (1 sc, inc) 6 times. (18 sts).

R5: 18 sc. (18 sts).

R6: 4 sc, 1 p, 4 sc, 1 p, 10 sc. (18 sts).

R7-9: 18 sc. When you reach the picot keep it in the front and work in the sts below as normal. (18 sts).

Stuff the piglet with fibrefill.

R10: (1 sc, sc2tog) 6 times. (12 sts).

R11: (sc2tog) 6 times. (6 sts).

Fasten off, leave tail for sewing.

Weave the tail through the front loops of the remaining 6 sts, then pull to close the hole.

Use the black tread to embroider the eyes.
