It’s February and we are officially in the month of love. To celebrate that I design a textured little heart, using half double crochet in the 3rd loop.
With this pattern you can make a heart in no time and you can use it as decoration or a special gift for someone.
Add it to your Ravelry Queue Or Favourites
Materials:
For this project I use DK wool yarn and a 3 mm crochet hook, but feel free to use any type of yarn and a corresponding hook size.
You will also need fiberfill for stuffing, tapestry needle, stitch marker and scissors.
Abbreviations:
This pattern is written in US terminology.
hdc: half double crochet
hdc2tog: half double crochet 2 together (decrease)
st(s): stitch(es)
In this project, almost all hdc are worked in the third loop. If you don’t know how to work that stitch, you can find directions here.
Instructions:
Unless otherwise noted all the individual parts are worked in continuous rounds, use a stitch marker to keep track of your rounds.
Round 1: In magic circle work 6 hdc. (6 sts).
For now on we are only working in the third loop of the hdc.
Round 2: 2 hdc in each st around. (12 sts).
Round 3: (1 hdc in the next 5 sts, 2 hdc in the next st) 2 times. (14 sts).
Round 4: 1 hdc in each st around. (14 sts).
Round 5: (1 hdc in the next 6 sts, 2 hdc in the next st) 2 times. (16 sts).
Round 6: (1 hdc in the next 3 sts, 2 hdc in the next st) 4 times. (20 sts).
Round 7: (1 hdc in the next 3 sts, 2 hdc in the next st) 5 times. (25 sts).
Round 8: (1 hdc in the next 4 sts, 2 hdc in the next st) 5 times. (30 sts).
Round 9: (1 hdc in the next 5 sts, 2 hdc in the next st) 5 times. (35 sts).
Round 10: (1 hdc in the next 6 sts, 2 hdc in the next st) 5 times. (40 sts).
For the first top half of the heart
Round 11: 1 hdc in the next 20 sts, skip the next 20 sts. (20 sts).
Round 12: 1 hdc in the fist st of round 11 and in the next 19 sts. (20 sts).
Round 13: (1 hdc in the next 3 sts, hdc2tog) 4 times. (16 sts).
Round 14: (1 hdc in the next 2 sts, hdc2tog) 4 times. (12 sts).
Round 15: (1 hdc in the next st, hdc2tog) 4 times. (8 sts).
Round 16: (hdc2tog) 4 times. (4 sts).
Fasten off, leave long tail for sewing. Weave the tail through the front loops of the remaining 4 stitches, then pull to close the hole. Secure the yarn end.
For the second top half of the heart.
Round 1: Attach yarn at the beginning of the remaining sts of round 11 and work 1 hdc in every st. (20 sts).
Rounds 2 – 6: Repeat rounds 12 – 16.
Use the gap between the two top halves to stuff the heart with fiberfill, then stitch it closed. Weave in any remaining yarn ends.
And you done! Your heart is finished!
