Is it really Halloween without at least one spooky monster? This cute little Purple Monster is a must have for your Halloween party! He will keep a eye on your guests and he will make sure that everyone is having a good time or he will eat them.

Follow the pattern to make a Purple Monster for your party, or make a few in different colors so you can have your very own little horde.


Pattern Information

Materials
Yarn: Fingering weight cotton yarn (50gr/125m) in purple, black and white.
For my sample I use Scheepjes Catona in the colorways: Garden Rose (251), Jet Black (110) and Snow White (106).
Crochet Hook: 2.50 mm crochet hook.
Notions: Fiberfill for stuffing, pins, tapestry needle, stitch marker and scissors.

Gauge
28 stitches and 27 rows in single crochet worked in the round, with 2.5 mm crochet hook = 10 cm.
Gauge is not important for this project. However, changes might affect the finished measurements.

Finished Measurements
Approx. 10 cm (4 in) tall.

Difficulty
Easy. Basic crochet and sewing skills required.

ch: chain
mc: magic circle
sc: single crochet
inc: increase 1 st (2 sc in the same st)
dec: decrease 1 st (single crochet 2 sts together)

Body

Use purple yarn.

Round 1: In a mc work 6 sc. (6 sts).

Round 2: 6 inc. (12 sts).

Round 3: {1 sc, inc} 6 times. (18 sts).

Round 4: {2 sc, inc} 6 times. (24 sts).

Round 5: {3 sc, inc} 6 times. (30 sts).

Round 6: 30 inc. (60 sts).

Rounds 7-11: 5 rnds. 60 sc. (60 sts).

Round 12: {3 sc, inc} 15 times. (75 sts).

Rounds 13-15: 3 rnds. 75 sc. (75 sts).

Round 16: {4 sc, inc} 15 times. (90 sts).

Rounds 17-31: 15 rnds. 90 sc. (90 sts).

Round 32: {4 sc, dec} 15 times. (75 sts).

Round 33: {3 sc, dec} 15 times. (60 sts).

Round 34: {1 sc, dec} 20 times. (40 sts).

Stuff the body with fiberfill.

Fasten off and leave a long tail. Weave the tail through the front loops of the remaining 6 stitches, then pull to close the hole. Weave in the end.

Eyes

Use purple and white yarn. Make two.

Start with white.

Round 1: In a mc work 6 sc. (6 sts).

Round 2: 6 inc. (12 sts).

Round 3: {1 sc, inc} 6 times. (18 sts).

Rounds 4-5: 2 rnds. 18 sc. (18 sts).

Change to purple.

Rounds 6-8: 3 rnds. 18 sc. (18 sts).

Stuff the eye with fiberfill.

Round 9: {1 sc, dec} 6 times. (12 sts).

Round 10: 6 dec. (6 sts).

Rounds 11-14: 4 rnds. 6 sc. (6 sts).

Sl st in the first st to close the round.

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Pupils

Use black yarn. Make two.

Round 1: In a mc work 6 sc. (6 sts).

Sl st in the first st to close the round.

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Mouth

Use black yarn.

The mouth is worked in one row.

Row 1: Ch 21, turn. Starting at the second ch from hook, work 20 sl st. (20 sts).

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Teeth

Use white yarn. Make two.

Round 1: In a mc work 6 sc. (6 sts).

Round 2: 6 sc. (6 sts).

Round 3: {2 sc, inc} 2 times. (8 sts).

Round 4: 8 sc. (8 sts).

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Assembly

• Sew the mouth on the body, between rnds 20 and 23.

• Sew the teeth on the edges of the mouth.

• Sew the pupils on the eyes.

• Sew the eyes on the top of the body.

• Weave in any remaining ends.
