Materials:
Yarn: Fingering weight, cotton yarn in 2 colors: A for the wings and B for the body. I use Scheepjes Catona in Marshmallow (518) for the wing and Metal Grey (242) for the body.
Crochet Hook: 2,5 mm.
Other Notions: Fiberfill for stuffing, tapestry needle, stitch marker, scissors.
Finished Measurements:
Approx. 7.5 cm (3 in) wide and 6 cm (2.4 in) tall, when made with suggested yarn weight and hook size.
Abbreviations:
The pattern is written in US terminology.
mc: magic circle
ch: chain
sc: single crochet
inc: increase 1 st. (2 sc in the same st)
inc2: increase 2 sts (3 sc in the same st)
dec: decrease 1 st
sl st: slip stitch
bo: bobble stitch
st(s): stitch(es)
{…}: repeat instructions between{ }
(…): total number of sts of the round
Special stitch:
Bobble stitch (bo): {Yarn over, insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through two 2 loops} repeat until you have a total of 4 loops on hook. Yarn over and pull through all 4 loops.
Instructions:
Unless otherwise noted, all the individual parts of the pattern are worked in continuous rounds, use a stitch marker to keep track of your rounds.
Wings
Use yarn A. Make two.
Round 1: Ch 9, turn.
Round 2: 1 sc in the second ch from hook, 6 sc along the chain, inc2 in the last ch. Continue on the other side of the starting chain, 6 sc, inc. (18 sts).
Round 3: 8 sc, inc2, 8 sc, inc2. (22 sts).
Rounds 4-5: 22 sc. (22 sts).
Round 6: Ch 6, turn, 1 sc in the second ch from hook, 4 sc along the chain, 1 sc in the base of the last st of previous round [pic 1], 22 sc. (28 sts).
Round 7: 4 sc on the other side of the ch, inc2 in the last st of the ch, 28 sc [pic 2]. (35 sts).
Round 8: 35 sc. (35 sts).
Round 9: {3 sc, dec} 7 times. (28 sts).
Round 10: 28 sc. (28 sts).
Round 11: {2 sc, dec} 7 times. (21 sts).
Round 12: 21 sc. (21 sts).
Round 13: {1 sc, dec} 7 times. (14 sts).
Stuff the wing, lightly, with fiberfill.
Round 14: 14 sc. (14 sts).
Round 15: {dec} 7 times. (7 sts).
Fasten off and leave a long tail. Weave the tail through the front loops of the remaining 7 sts, then pull to close the hole.
Attach the wing together with a few stitches [pic 3].
Body
Use yarn B.
Round 1: In mc work 6 sc. (6 sts).
Round 2: {2 sc, inc} 2 times. (8 sts).
Round 3: {1 sc, inc} 4 times. (12 sts).
Rounds 4-5: 12 sc. (12 sts).
Round 6: {dec} 6 times. (6 sts).
Round 7: {inc} 6 times. (12 sts).
Round 8: {1 sc, inc} 6 times. (18 sts).
Rounds 9-10: 18 sc. (18 sts).
Stuff the body with fiberfill.
Round 11: {1 sc, dec}, 6 times. (12 sts).
Round 12: {dec} 6 times. (6 sts).
Fasten off and leave a long tail. Weave the tail through the front loops of the remaining 6 sts, then pull to close the hole.
Antennas
Use yarn B.
Ch 11, turn. 1 bo in the second ch from hook, 8 sl st, 1 bo in the last st, sl st in the same stitch. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Assembly
Sew the antennas to the body [pic 6].
Sew the wings to the body [pic 7].
